A man swallowed razor blades in a suicide attempt after allegedly murdering his daughter and ex-girlfriend in Meadowlands.
The bleeding man turned himself over to police on Tuesday morning, according to Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale.
He told them that he had stabbed himself in the neck and swallowed razor blades after murdering his ex-girlfriend, Tracey Mabunda and their daughter, Kelebogile Mabunda, seven, on Monday night. Mabunda was stabbed several times and Kelebogile was strangled.
He led police to the scene, a rented room on Igwababa Street in Zone 7, which Mabunda shared with her daughter.
“When I opened the door, there was blood all over the floor,” said Mabunda’s best friend, Gladys Ditse, who went to the scene when she heard of the deaths.
Landlady Flora Vilikazi said she had not heard anything on the night the two were murdered and was shocked when police arrived. “I was sick, sick, sick, my heart runs.”
Vilikazi said Mabunda had been renting the room for just more than a year.
According to Ditse and Mabunda’s sister, Mabunda’s ex-boyfriend had become jealous of a new relationship she had begun with another man.
The man is under police guard in hospital and will appear in court soon, said Mogale.
