Man in court over expo shootingComment on this story
Johannesburg - A man who was charged after his son was shot at a hunting expo in Midrand appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
The matter was postponed to June 11 for further investigation.
Sean Kotzin, dressed in a dark blue top and black jeans, sat in the first row of the court gallery before proceedings. His lawyer and another man sat next to him and spoke to him.
Kotzin has been charged with negligent handling of a firearm. He was arrested on April 30 and granted R2000 bail after appearing in court.
His seven-year-old son was critically wounded at Gallagher Estate when Kotzin went into a toilet cubicle with him and his gun went off, wounding the boy in the chest.
Kotzin's lawyer appeared irritated and refused to speak to a Sapa reporter when asked his name and how the boy was doing.
“I don't have any comment,” he said, rushing out of the court with Kotzin.
The lawyer was identified by prosecutor Jacky Letsoalo only as Sloane, his surname.
“I don't know his name because we only address each other with surnames in court,” Letsoalo said.
