Pietermaritzburg - The Pietermaritzburg High Court heard evidence on Monday in the trial of the men accused of the murder of mine manager Timothy Green.

Green, who was a part-time farmer and manager of the Shanduka coal mine near Newcastle, was fatally wounded when he returned to his home on a Sunday evening in August last year.

The accused, Mfanakhuno Masiteng, was implicated in Green's murder by State witness Thulani Kubheka.

Kubheka told the court that two days before the murder Masiteng told him he wished to kill Green and sell his vehicle to a Ladysmith taxi driver.

Masiteng and his co-accused Siyabonga Nkhunza have pleaded not guilty to murdering Green and robbing his house.

Green's colleague Marelize Strydom said that after he was shot, Green phoned her and asked her to call the police and the emergency services.

She said she and others hastened to the farm where they found Green dead.

The case has been set down for two weeks and is being heard by Judge Jerome Mnguni.
