Potchefstroom - A 25-year-old suspect will appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court on a charge of rape on Thursday.
He was arrested on Wednesday, police spokesperson Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said in a statement.
The suspect allegedly raped a 24-year-old woman on December 26, Boxing Day.
Moleko said the victim “was on her way home when she heard someone coming from behind. When she looked behind, the suspect grabbed her and she fell”.
The suspect allegedly “placed an axe next to her neck, took her to a nearby toilet and raped her”.
The attack happened in Extension 11, Ikageng near Potchefstroom.
Moleko said police arrested the suspect at his home in Ikageng.
