Cape Town - The Western Cape High Court is on Wednesday expected to hear an urgent application brought by embattled Western Cape ANC leader Marius Fransman.
Fransman, who has been accused of sexually harassing 21-year-old Louisa Wynand while they were travelling to Rustenburg in January, was suspended pending a disciplinary inquiry.
But there has been confusion around his reinstatement after he last week publicly campaigned with President Jacob Zuma in the run-up to the local government elections on August 3.
Fransman, in a statement on Monday, said he wanted his “constitutional rights to fair procedure”.
“I have answered the call of the ANC, structures on the ground in the Western Cape, and sectors in our society, on July 21, in the presence of the president of the ANC, and of Western Cape ANC officials, that I resume my duties and responsibilities as the duly elected ANC Western Cape leader, by actively participating in canvassing events since Thursday last,” he said.
The party's national spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, on Monday told the media that Fransman had not been reinstated.
Fransman will also ask the Western Cape High Court for access to the ANC's Integrity Commission's report into the incident.
