Johannesburg - Suspended crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli testified on Wednesday in the inquest into the death of his love rival Oupa Ramogibe.

“Nobody officially approached me to say 'you were a suspect', but there were rumours,” Mdluli told the Boksburg Magistrate's Court.

Mdluli said he had nothing to do with the death of Ramogibe 13 years ago.

The inquest had heard allegations that Mdluli threatened to kill Ramogibe after he married Tsidi Buthelezi, Mdluli's mistress.

Mdluli was accused of the murder with Samuel Dlomo, Colonel Nkosana Sebastian Ximba, and Lt-Col Mtunzi-Omhle Mthembeni Mtunzi, but the charge was provisionally withdrawn in February pending the outcome of the inquest.

Also withdrawn were charges of intimidation, kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder.

The inquest continues. - Sapa
