Cape Town – Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old man who was found shot dead in Steenberg.

Lieutenant Colonel Police spokesperson Andrè Traut said circumstances surrounding the murder are being investigated.

He said the man had been shot and killed on Tuesday around 9pm in Prince George Drive, Cafda, Steenberg, by an unidentified gunman.

Community Safety MEC Dan Plato, said that such incidents would not be tolerated and police will continue to pursue the case. “I condemn in the strongest possible terms any killing in our province, especially those at the hand of guns."

“The police are busy conducting a thorough investigation and that those responsible will face the full might of the law.”

He called on the public to speak out and eradicate criminal elements.

“I call on all residing in our communities to come forward with information that might assist the police in getting these murderers off our streets. If we are to turn the tide on the problem of gangs, drugs and guns – the devastation they cause in our communities – then we need speak out against the evils, report it to the police and work with the police and law enforcement authorities to ensure our streets and communities and towns across the province become the safe places they are supposed to be.”
