Johannesburg -

In spite of high expectations that the police would finally crack the investigation and arrest a suspect or suspects in connection with the October 26, 2014, murder of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, the case seems to have gone cold.

Meyiwa was shot at the home of the mother of his musician and celebrity girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus on the East Rand.

A few weeks ago, The Sunday Independent reported that police might have found a clue to the unresolved murder: a panama hat that had been left at the scene.

Police had indicated the hat could lead them to Meyiwa’s killer as the DNA found on it did not match any of the identified people present in the house on the night of Meyiwa’s death.

Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi was not available for comment on Saturday,.

However, sources in the police say the Gauteng team assigned to the Meyiwa murder case have shifted their focus to the Paul O’Sullivan investigation.

O’Sullivan, a forensic investigator, was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport earlier this month on his way to London.

It was alleged he had violated the Immigration Act.

Police said they had found O'Sullivan to be in possession of three passports.

So once again there is a lull in the Meyiwa case.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) should contact Crime Stop at 08600 1011 or SMS Crime Line at 32211.

There is a R250 000 reward.
