Durban - AN elderly couple are recovering in ICU after an attack on their Nottingham Road farm over the weekend.
Lynn Twort, 70, and her husband Ken, 76, are lucky to be alive after a would-be robber caught them off guard on Saturday night.
According to police spokesman Captain Lolly Naidoo, Lynn was shot in the chest at close range after she opened her kitchen door to let her dogs out.
Ken, trying to save his wife from further harm, tried to ward off the attacker, but was badly beaten. The attacker eventually fled taking only a cellphone.
This is not the first attack the couple have had to endure.
Four months ago, Twort was assaulted in her home by unknown men in another botched robbery attempt.
The Tworts, who are cattle farmers, have lived in Nottingham Road for over a decade.
Police are on the hunt for their attacker, who is believed to be in his early 30s.
The Nottingham Road police station was investigating two cases of attempted murder.
KwaZulu-Natal agricultural union spokesman Koos Marais described the attack as a horrific incident, but said that thankfully the area has not recently been plagued by farm attacks.
He implored locals to beef up on security measures and report strangers in the area.
