A North West mother was jailed for eight years by the Mogwase Regional Court for the murder of her two-month-old baby, police said on Thursday.

Ntombi Ngunduza, 32, went to the baby's father on December 18, 2010, to ask for the clinic card to take the baby for a consultation, said Captain Tselane Nkala.

“He refused to hand over the clinic card, so the angry mother threw the baby against the wall and the baby died on the scene. She was arrested the same night and made her first court appearance on December 22.”

Ngunduza applied for bail on January 5, 2011. Bail was denied and she remained in custody.

“She was found guilty of murder and sentenced to eight years on January 12 this year,” said Nkala. - Sapa
