Pretoria - The family of 21-year-old, Aviwe Mondile, from Block T in Soshanguve are still clinging to the hope that she’ll be found alive more than two weeks after she disappeared.

Mondile was last seen on December 28, allegedly getting into a car near her home.

Her distraught mother Eunice Mondile says she hasn’t been able to sleep or eat since her daughter went missing. She said she was visiting the Eastern Cape when she received a call from her neighbour in Soshanguve asking about the whereabouts of her daughter.

“I was visiting our extended family when I got a call. The neighbour was worried and thought maybe Aviwe might have been in a horrible accident or something,” said an emotional Eunice.

According to Eunice, her neighbour she knows only as Mavuso, was alarmed when Aviwe’s two children aged between 2 and 5 were wandering around the yard looking for their mom on the day she disappeared. Mavuso was even more alarmed when night fell and the house lights were off and the children sitting outside. He took the children in for safe-keeping.

According to Eunice the only ones who saw Aviwe leave were her two children. “They are too young to describe what car their mom left in. But we managed to establish that it was indeed a car,” said Eunice.

She described her daughter as a responsible young, house-bound woman who rarely went out partying. She said it boggles her mind that Aviwe would leave her children alone just like that. It doesn’t suit her character. “She always asks for permission when she goes out.”

Aviwe was last seen by her neighbour wearing a towel and head scarf. Her mom says Aviwe’s travelling bag, along with her wallet were still at home. The only thing she left with was her cellphone which is now off. Eunice has since opened a case at the local police station.

“I’ve looked everywhere for my daughter, the only place I’m scared of checking is the mortuary. I can’t bear the thought of losing her,” said Eunice.

She said Aviwe's children ask about their mother every night.

Eunice is appealing to the public to provide any useful information on 072 048 8221.
