Johannesburg - Former ANC Youth League leader Patrick Wisani is still on the run after allegedly assaulting a witness in the murder case he has been charged for.

Wisani’s lawyer Mpho Selepe said his client had told him he would hand himself over to police on Tuesday. But sources close to the investigation told The Star that Wisani had not done so and that they were unable to get hold of him on his phone.

Two weeks ago, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng issued a warrant for his arrest in the high court sitting in Palm Ridge after he and his lawyer failed to appear.

Prosecuter Faghre Mohamed submitted an urgent application to have Wisani’s bail conditions revoked after he allegedly assaulted and intimidated a key State witness, Siphokazi Mandleleni.

Wisani allegedly beat Mandleleni’s twin sister Nosipho to death in September with a sjambok and a broomstick. Mandleleni found her body the next morning.

Wisani’s bail conditions said he was not to make contact with any of the witnesses. But Wisani, who was the ANC Youth League chairman for Joburg inner city at the time, allegedly intimidated and dragged Siphokazi on the ground when he saw her exiting a Joburg club.
