Johannesburg - A 27-year-old male was recently arrested for allegedly raping his neighbour, Johannesburg police said on Monday.

Johannesburg Central Police’s Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the arrest took place on Saturday afternoon at the Bekezela informal settlement, on the corner of Henry Nxumalo and Carr Street in the city.

The rape allegedly happened on Friday night at the home of the 30-year-old female victim.

It is alleged that the victim was sleeping when the suspect broke into her home and raped her.

“[An] investigation is underway and [the] suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court,” said Mbele.
