Polokwane - A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the killing of Lieutenant Yezindaba Meshack Shikati, Limpopo police said on Monday.

The 18-year-old was arrested in Mankweng, outside Polokwane, early on Sunday morning, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

He is expected to appear in the Ritavi Magistrate's Court soon.

Shikati, 54, was shot dead when he and Constable Carrol Machaba responded to a complaint at the Mabuza tavern at Patanage village on June 29.

The police officers were ambushed by two men armed with a rifle and a handgun, and their service pistols were stolen. Machaba was not injured in the attack.

Three people have already appeared in court in connection with the crime. The two stolen service pistols, another 9mm firearm, an unlicensed pump gun and ammunition were recovered during the arrests.

Teffe Malangana, 23, Lazarus Moseamedi, 25, and David Malatjie, 33, face charges of murder, armed robbery, and possession of unlicensed firearms.

They remain in custody and are expected to appear in court again on Friday.
