Johannesburg - Bail should not be granted to four police officers appearing in connection with the fatal shooting of a Roodepoort protester, Durban Deep Community spokesman Anton Mankgabe said on Monday.
“If that happens, we will take radical steps. We are prepared to be arrested again,” Mankgabe said.
Mankgabe said residents would embark on more protests and make Roodepoort ungovernable.
Four police officers were arrested on Friday for allegedly shooting dead a protester.
Residents of Durban Deep, on the West Rand, took to the streets on Thursday to protest against an eviction order and a lack of housing.
A 28-year-old man, Tshepo Babuseng, was shot dead, allegedly by a policeman, after protesting residents barricaded roads with stones and burning tyres.
Scores of people were protesting outside the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday. Some of the protesters were wearing DA T-shirts.
They were carrying placards reading “Who is going to protect us if you kill us” and “Nathi Mthethwa hold your dogs”. Another said:
“You stupid police you killed my sister's child like a dog.
“You must go back to school.” - Sapa
