Johannesburg - A man in his eighties has died after being found in a pool of blood at his home in Krugersdorp. He had been stabbed multiple times.

The police and paramedics are still trying to determine exactly what led to the brutal attack.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene at about 7.30am on Wednesday and found the critically injured man in his bed.

Netcare spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said tenants on the man’s property had discovered him and called for help, but she said no one had been able to explain what happened.

While paramedics were able to stabilise the man and transport him to a local hospital for further care, he later died of his injuries at the facility.

Krugersdorp police spokesperson Sergeant Tshepiso Mashele said police were unable to interview the man before he was taken to hospital, and thus investigators were also still in the dark about the attack.

“It is unclear when exactly (the attacked happened) and what transpired to result in this brutal attack.

“The victim has not made any statement due to the extent of his injuries,” she said, prior to the man dying.

The station commander for the Krugersdorp police, Brigadier Patrick Baloyi, said investigators were probing the incident.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators is asked to call the Krugersdorp SAPS on 011 951 1151 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
