Kimberley - Two men were arrested in Kimberley after they were found in possession of perlemoen (abalone) with an estimated value of R76 000, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.
“Police received a tip-off about a bakkie travelling on the N12 from Cape Town to Kimberley,” said Lt Olebogeng Tawana.
“Upon patrolling and blocking all roads leading into Kimberley, they stopped the bakkie and discovered three black refuse bags filled with abalone weighing 76kg loaded in the back.”
The two men, who are Pakistani nationals aged 31 and 40, are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Friday to face charges of illegal possession of perlemoen.
