Cape Town - A 21-year-old man was shot and killed on Tuesday morning while walking home on Vera Road in Scotsdene, Western Cape, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

Responding to a call, paramedics arrived at the scene just after 8am.

“Upon arrival, the paramedics found the patient lying in the arms of a family member,” Meiring said in a statement.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the patient, finding that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the patient, he was declared dead on the scene.”

Meiring said the details surrounding the shooting were unknown and were subject of an investigation by local authorities.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Fredrik van Wyk said: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident this morning at about 07:40 in Vera Street, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, whereby a 21-year-old man was fatally wounded, are under investigation. A murder case was opened for investigation.”
