FSTATE COUPLE ARRESTED FOR RAPE

The mother and stepfather of a Qwaqwa girl were arrested on Monday for sexually abusing her for the past eight years, police said on Monday.

Spokesman Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the mother apparently knew the stepfather was raping the girl, but did nothing.

The crimes happened between 2003 and 2011 and began when the girl was five-years-old.

The 51-year-old man would sneak into the girl's room when her mother was asleep.

Mophiring said the girl apparently told her mother. Although she told the girl she would handle the problem, she did not. The girl eventually told neighbours and the police were alerted.

They would appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on charges of rape on Wednesday.
