Cape Town - Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) on Monday expressed concern at the recent burglaries at the offices of the country’s intelligence structures.

In a statement, the JSCI welcomed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the theft of R17 million in foreign currency from the State Security Agency in Pretoria, and said it hoped investigations into the theft of laptops from Defence Intelligence headquarters, also in the country’s capital,, would yield arrests.

“The Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) will give these matters its urgent attention during oversight visits so that we restore confidence to the people of South Africa that the security of the state will receive our highest priority,” it said in a statement.

“The oversight visits will take place within the next two weeks.”
