Port Elizabeth – One man was killed in a suspected gang-related drive-by shooting along Govan Mbeki avenue in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said that four men were on their way to the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court when the shooting incident occurred.

At least 12 bullet holes peppered the VW Golf in which they were travelling.

A man in his 30s died after sustaining several gunshot wounds.

Two other men, also in their 30s, were shot through the hand and the back. They were taken to hospital to receive medical attention.

According to paramedics on the scene, one person who was sitting next to the deceased in the vehicle, managed to dodge all the bullets. He was unharmed and was seen giving statements to police officers.

Labans told reporters at the scene that four suspects appeared to have driven off in a gold Mazda Etude.

He said that the investigation was now being taken over by the gang task team.

No arrests have been made.
