Cape Town - A 42-year-old man appeared in court on Monday following his arrest for allegedly driving a truck carrying R250 000 worth of counterfeit goods.

Western Cape police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said the man was arrested on Saturday after officers attached to the Cape Town Sea Border Patrol Unit received information about the truck which was en route to Cape Town.

The truck, which police believed was transporting counterfeit goods, was spotted on the N1 highway heading for Cape Town.

Police pulled the truck over, searched the vehicle, and discovered “counterfeit goods comprising various brands with an estimated value of R250 000”.

The suspect, a Somalian, was arrested and made his first court appearance on Monday.

“The truck and trailer were also confiscated,” said Van Wyk.
