Pistorius’ uncle ‘relieved’ by bail

Pretoria - Oscar Pistorius' uncle was “relieved” that his nephew was granted bail at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday.

“At the same time we are in mourning for the death of Reeva with her family,” said Arnold Pistorius, after bail was granted to the paralympian charged with his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's murder.

He was grateful to Magistrate Desmond Nair and to Pistorius' legal team who had “worked professionally”.

“As a family we know Oscar's version of what happened at that tragic night is the truth and that will prevail in the coming court case.”

He would not take questions.

Bail was set at R1 million, with conditions.

He was arrested on February 14 after Steenkamp was shot dead in a toilet in his house. He said he thought there was an intruder in the bathroom. - Sapa
