It was reported that the Afro-jazz singer drove the injured woman to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where the woman succumbed to her injuries. It was reported that the woman was on her way to the clinic when the accident happened in Mofolo in Soweto on Monday, January 28.

The woman’s family did not want to comment.

Sephuma’s publicist declined to comment, saying the matter was a legal issue.

On Sunday, Twitter users speculated on the singer’s identity. Xoli Khumalo posted, “Wow. My mom and I have been guessing who the female singer is who ran over the lady in Soweto. Judith Sephuma wasn’t even on the list.”

Vicente said, “Shame, I don’t know whether I should say poor Judith Sephuma or should I send my heartfelt condolences to the poor old lady’s family.”

Messages of support were posted on the singer’s Facebook wall.
