A priest was arrested for theft and malicious damage to property after a church service in Soweto, according to a report on Monday.

This was after a congregant laid a police report about him, the Sowetan newspaper reported.

The complainant told the publication he had lent his vehicle to the Uniting Reformed Church priest in 2010 as he did not own one.

“In September last year, I checked on the car with the minister and realised that the engine was missing,” he was quoted as saying.

The priest had apparently promised to fix the car but did not.

He was taken to the Protea Glen police station and is due to appear in court on Monday. – Sapa
