Durban - Prosecutor Gayle Greyling did not want to take her ex-boyfriend, lawyer Shameer Goolabjith, to court for allegedly beating her.

All she had wanted was for him to say sorry and seek help, but now she wants him to have his day in court.

“I am willing to put myself through the trauma to stand up for what is right. I want justice to be served,” she told the Sunday Tribune after the assault and intimidation case against Goolabjith was provisionally withdrawn this week.

Greyling said the matter would not have been dragged to court had Goolabjith accepted her two previous suggestions of alternative dispute resolution.

“I’m not a vindictive person. I wanted to give the accused a chance to settle in a non-combative manner and avoid the trauma of a trial,” she said.

Greyling claimed that she suffered a broken jaw after Goolabjith allegedly slammed her face on the dashboard of his car on February 26, last year.

The prosecutor claims they reconciled but she was subjected to another beating, about two weeks later.

Goolabjith declined to comment.

National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the matter would be re-enrolled once they received all of the outstanding documents.
