Johannesburg - Soweto police are offering a R50 000 reward to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the radio DJ who allegedly murdered his girlfriend.
Although they have not named the man, police are believed to be on the hunt for Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai in connection with the brutal murder of Rachel “Dolly” Tshabalala’s (nee Marawa).
Spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said they were conducting all sort of investigations to trace the man.
It is believed the suspect has fled Gauteng.
“We have eyes and ears everywhere. We are working around the clock to apprehend him,” said Makhubela.
He added that police were in communication with the suspect’s family and friends, who claimed they hadn’t seen the DJ since the incident.
The DJ is also believed to have stolen Tshabalala’s bank cards
Tshabalala’s body was discovered on Sunday in Sebolai’s Jabulani flat by her best friend, Nhlanhla Mkhize, after he allegedly phoned her to confess to the murder earlier that morning.
Meanwhile, the family were in the process of moving her body from a mortuary to an undertaker and were still finalising funeral plans on Tuesday afternoon.
On Sunday afternoon, police discovered Tshabalala’s abandoned car about 2km from the flat, with clothing and empty bottles of alcohol in the back of the vehicle.
Mkhize said she had been informed that Tshabalala’s bank card and another card belonging to her mother were also found in the car.
It appeared as though Sebolai had used Tshabalala’s card to pay for two transactions of R100 and R25 worth of airtime on Sunday morning, according to notifications seen by Mkhize on her friend’s cellphone.
Mkhize said the strong smell of blood was one of the first things that hit her when she entered Sebolai’s flat with police.
Tshabalala had been stabbed repeatedly around her genital area, according to Mkhize, and there were no other visible wounds on her body.
