Johannesburg - The cross-examination of Justina Ramogibe continued on Tuesday in an inquest into the death in 1999 of her brother Oupa, the love rival of suspended crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.

Ike Motloung, for Mdluli, probed Justina's contention that she was raped by the police and her statement about the rape.

“I knew it was the police because they were travelling in a police vehicle,” Justina told the court.

Asked about her statement, which did not mentioning the police's involvement, she said: “I knew I was raped by the police - if there is such a statement it was made by the police.”

On Monday, the court heard that the Ramogibe family was threatened by Mdluli and lost faith in the police.

The court was told that Justina's mother Sophia received a threatening call to tell the family to not pursue Oupa's death.

Criminal charges against Mdluli and his accomplices Samuel Dlomo, Colonel Nkosana Sebastian Ximba, and Lieutenant-Colonel Mtunzi-Omhle Mthembeni Mtunzi were provisionally withdrawn in February, pending the outcome of the inquest.

The charges against them were intimidation, kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. - Sapa
