Pretoria - Mpumalanga police are trying to unravel the mystery of a middle-aged man found burning alive on the side of the N17 highway near the Ermelo toll gates.
Police were tipped-off about the tragic spectacle by a nearby farmer and toll gate staff in the early hours of Monday morning.
“The person was Goolam Docrat. He was taken to hospital for treatment but died during the night,” said Captain Carla Prinsloo.
Docrat was buried on Tuesday.
Prinsloo denied media reports claiming the 43-year-old had been a victim of a hijacking.
A plastic bottle with petrol was found near the burning man.
