Five dogs belonging to murdered Kirsty Theologo's family have been poisoned in Johannesburg, according to a report on Saturday.

The teenager's mother Sylvia Theologo found one dog dead in the garden at her Rosettenville home on Thursday, Beeld reported.

She initially thought the dog died from old age but later another dog went missing.

She went out with friends on Thursday evening to “get away from everything at the house” but when she returned at 9pm she was told her neighbour phoned animal protection to pick up their three other dogs.

“They died with foam around their mouths, which is a clear sign of poisoning,” Theologo said.

She was frightened because a man had phoned her and said he was watching her children.

“I keep them inside, but I don't know what to do.”

She has five other children, four of whom live with her.

Phone messages which said “they got the dogs and the children are next” were doing the rounds, Beeld reported.

Family members also allegedly received phone calls saying the family should forgive the accused.

Kirsty and her 14-year-old friend were among eight youngsters who reportedly went to a koppie behind the Linmeyer swimming pool in Julius Street on October 21.

The two girls were tied up before they were doused with petrol and set alight in what has been described as a Satanic ritual.

Five men were charged with murder and attempted murder. Kirsty's died in hospital last week.

The men are Lindon Wagner, 21, Robin Harwood, 18, Lester Moody, 18, and Jeremy King, 18, and Harvey Isha, 23.

A 16-year-old girl was later arrested in connection with the case. - Sapa
