Seven people accused of burning a man to death appeared in the Giyani Magistrate's Court in Limpopo on Monday, police said.

Lt-Col Mohale Ramatseba said four women and three men, aged between 24 and 46, appeared in court.

The matter was postponed to April 20, for further investigation. They face charges of murder, attempted murder, public violence, and arson.

The seven allegedly torched the house of 79-year-old Tarazeta Mathebula last week. He died inside the burning house while his 55-year-old sister-in-law was seriously injured when residents assaulted her. She was taken to a nearby hospital.

Residents had accused Mathebula of practising witchcraft. - Sapa
