Limpopo - A man accused of kidnapping a Polokwane woman, Anisah Moosa, was granted bail by the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Monday, leaving the family of his survivor incensed.

Moosa family spokesman Yusuf Abramjee said the family were outraged as this was the third time the accused, Masilo Kgafane, 33, was granted bail. He was rearrested last week.

Kgafane and two of his co-accused, Samuel Kobo, 28, and Benny Mudau, 34, allegedly kidnapped Moosa, 35, on March 19 outside her uncle’s home in the suburb of Nirvana. They allegedly demanded a R3 million ransom for her release.

Abramjee said the family had written to the justice and police ministries, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the acting police commissioner asking for urgent intervention.

“The release of Kgafane for a third time on bail, despite him facing serious charges, is a serious indictment of our justice system,” said Abramjee.

“The family feel that the justice system is letting victims down badly. We are shocked at the release of Kgafane. How are suspects who face serious charges released on bail repeatedly and so easily?”

The trio were initially released on R10 000 bail each by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on May 19, following the alleged abduction of Moosa on March 15.

The men also face charges of attempted murder after three policemen were shot and wounded during a sting operation in which Moosa was freed.
