Durban - A shack used to store stolen copper cable has been found in KwaMashu and R3 million worth of it was recovered, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.
Following an investigation, police proceeded to an informal settlement in A Section on Monday and found the shack, said Colonel Jay Naicker.
“After a search of the dwellings in the informal settlement they discovered the shack that was utilised as a warehouse for storing the stolen cable,” he said.
“Approximately 200 rolls of copper cable valued in excess of R3m was recovered.”
Naicker said Metrorail, Telkom, Eskom and municipal departments were called in to identify which cables could be theirs.
So far, only Metrorail and the eThekwini municipality have identified some of the cable as belonging to them.
“Further investigations are underway (and) no arrests have been made,” he said. - Sapa
