Port Elizabeth - A father and son, who allegedly walked into a pharmacy in Seaview, Eastern Cape last month and demanded they be assisted to committed suicide, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Friday, the SABC reported.

The bail application of Bernardus Lottering, 49, and his son Ernest, 19, was postponed to November 22.

The court postponed the case as the father was scheduled to go for a leg amputation. The pharmacy staff gave them tranquillisers, making them believe they were lethal.

The men then allowed the staff to leave and were holed up in the pharmacy for hours inside.

At the time, it was believed they had a gun and explosive device.

The two had not made any demands, except that police should not enter the shop. The rest of the complex was also evacuated.

A toy gun and an incendiary device was found during the arrests.
