Port Elizabeth - A minibus taxi driver was arrested after he hit a pedestrian in Port Elizabeth on Thursday, the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality said.

Spokesman Kupido Baron said the taxi also ploughed into a bakkie that crashed into a shop, before fleeing from the scene.

A traffic officer gave chase and forced the taxi off the road.

“The taxi driver was arrested on suspicion of reckless and negligent driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence.”

Ten people, including passengers of the taxi, were taken to several hospitals in the city. - Sapa
