Katlehong - Three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a panel van of cigarettes with an estimated street value of R20 000 in Zonkizizwe, Katlehong, on Friday, Gauteng police said.

The men, aged 22, 27 and 29, were arrested along the R103 and N3 highway on Friday afternoon, police said in a statement.

“Police were earlier at the scene of an armed robbery where a driver of the panel van delivering cigarettes was robbed at gunpoint.”

Two of the men were found in a silver BMW, while the third man was arrested in a taxi while trying to flee.

The panel van was recovered at the scene and the cigarettes seized.

The men were expected to appear in Heidelberg Magistrate's Court soon.
