Kabokweni - Three people have appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court for allegedly abducting and raping two school pupils, Mpumalanga police said on Tuesday.

They appeared in court on Monday and were each charged with two counts of rape and kidnapping, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

The three would remain in custody until their next court appearance on July 2.

A fourth person, arrested on Sunday, was expected to appear in court in connection with the same crime later on Tuesday.

The four, aged between 24 and 29, were arrested between Friday and Sunday at Thekwane South, outside Nelspruit. They allegedly kidnapped and raped two pupils from Hilary High School, in Pienaar.

“The two learners, aged 20 and 21 years, were allegedly abducted on their way from school on Thursday, May 22, kidnapped and raped by the suspects at gunpoint,” Mohlala said.

The pupils were released the same day and reported the crime to the police.
