Brackenfell - Western Cape police on Friday arrested three suspects found with a large quantity of abalone.

The three were nabbed by police officers during a patrol in Kiewiet Street Okavango Business Park, Brackenfell, on Friday morning.

Police in a statement explained that officers on duty spotted a suspicious looking vehicle and decided to investigate.

"The vehicle of the suspects raised suspicion and prompted the members to investigate, which led to the discovery of 40 boxes of dried abalone, possibly destined for export."

The exact value of the abalone is yet to be determined.

The suspects were promptly arrested and charged with the illegal possession of abalone.

The three are set to appear at the Blue Downs magistrates' court on Monday to face their charges.
