Cape Town – Cape Town police have arrested three men after an armed robbery at a cellphone shop in the CBD, Western Cape police said on Friday.

“Cape Town central police crime prevention unit members received a complaint from radio control regarding an armed robbery in progress at a cellular telephone store in Thibault Square, Riebeeck Street, Cape Town,” Captain FC van Wyk said.

The officers responded to the scene and upon arrival in front of store three men came running out of the shop. “One of the suspects threw a firearm on the ground when he noticed police members.”

The men ran in the direction of Hans Strydom Street and the officers gave chase and arrested two men. The third man was arrested in Prestwick Street, Green Point, with a 9mm firearm and ammunition in his possession.

“Both firearms were confiscated as well as the motor vehicle of the suspects. The suspects were detained and are due to appear [in the] Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” Van Wyk said.
