Cape Town - Police have arrested two hijacking suspects following a high-speed chase in Delft in Cape Town.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said that on Monday at around 10am, police attached to Delft SAPS were conducting crime prevention when they spotted a suspicious VW Polo in Palm Street Delft South, with four occupants.
“Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects fled at high speed, ignoring the blaring siren,” Rwexana said.
In Palm Street police cornered the vehicle and the suspects jumped out, police gave chase. One of the suspects drew a firearm and attempted to shoot at the police, who returned fire. It is suspected that the firearm jammed and the suspect fled the scene.
“Police searched for the suspects and found one suspect hiding behind an outside toilet, the clothes he was dressed in were hidden behind the same toilet,” Rwexana said.
Police arrested the other suspect nearby.
The motor vehicle was allegedly hijacked in Langa, earlier this month.
The two 26-year-old suspects are facing charges of hijacking, possession of a firearm and ammunition, pointing a firearm and resisting arrest.
Both suspects are expected to appear in Bellville Court on Wednesday.
