Johannesburg - Two men were arrested in the Johannesburg CBD for allegedly robbing a 17-year-old boy, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the boy, who had travelled from KwaZulu-Natal, was waiting for his father to fetch him at the corner of Gwigwi Mrwebi and Sauer streets on Tuesday morning.

“He was approached by three suspects and one of them pointed (at) him with a firearm and took his cellphone and a bag with his clothes,” said Mbele.

Mbele said the boy came back to town with his father on Wednesday and saw one of the men wearing his clothes.

The boy stopped a police vehicle and pointed out the man, who was arrested. Another man was also arrested a few streets away.

Mbele said the cellphone was not recovered and one of the men was still at large.

He said the two men, aged 19 and 21, would face charges of armed robbery and would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court once formally charged. - Sapa
