Johannesburg - Two men were arrested for an armed robbery in Bronkhorstspruit on Tuesday morning, Gauteng police said.

Captain Pinky Tsinyane said three men robbed the driver and his crew member at gunpoint while they were off-loading cigarettes at a shop in Mothibe Street, in Rethabiseng.

“The suspects took boxes of cigarettes and got away from the crime scene with a silver grey (Daihatsu) Terios,” she said.

Security guards chased the robbers and a shootout ensued. The driver lost control of the Terios and crashed into a shack, damaging furniture. The owner of the shack, his wife and a six-month-old baby were asleep at the time. They were unhurt.

Police recovered boxes of cigarettes worth an estimated R300 000.
