Durban - Two men have been arrested for the alleged gang-rape of an Eston school teacher last month.

The suspects, both in their 30s, were arrested on Tuesday in Mid Illovo, in the Midlands, and items taken from the victim during the June 5 rape were recovered.

These included takkies, which one of the suspects was wearing at the time of his arrest.

According to Vincent Mdunge of Magma Investigations, the woman had gone to bed at about 7pm on the night of the rape and had left her front door unlocked, expecting a visitor.

It is alleged that two men, armed with knives, entered the house and began gathering items that they intended to steal.

When they came across the teacher who was asleep, they awoke her, threatened her with death before taking turns to rape her.

After they had fled she raised the alarm and farmers in the area came to her aid.

Derek Stainbank, one of the farmers, enlisted the help of Shaheen Suleiman from Magma Investigations to help police with the investigations.

Efforts by Magma and the Plessislaer police led to the arrests in Mid Illovo on Tuesday. The men were from Umbumbulu, 25km from the crime scene, and are expected to appear in court.
