Potchefstroom – Two suspects’ plans were foiled when police bust them en route to allegedly committing a crime in Ikageng near Potchefstroom.

The two male suspects, one aged 24 and the other 55, were arrested on Monday night by the Potchefstroom K9 Unit.

Police acted on a tip-off and found the suspects under a tree near the local spaza shop they were allegedly about to rob.

“When the K9 unit searched them, they found a handgun, a pair of hand gloves, a rope, and balaclavas,” said North West police spokesperson Paul Ramaloko.

“When they were asked what they were doing with those items, they could not explain.”

The suspects were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and are expected to appear in the Ikageng Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
