Pretoria – An American woman who has been on the run from the law in her country for seven years has been arrested in South Africa and will be sent back to face the music, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said on Friday.

The Hawks said members of the Fugitive/ Extradition Unit of the Interpol have arrested a wanted USA fugitive who has been on the run since 2009.

“Nichole Michelle King, 44, had been on the most wanted list in her country of birth for sentencing after she was found guilty on three offences relating to fraud and embezzlement of funds from her employer,” said Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda of the Hawks in a statement.

King was arrested in 2006 and was due to be sentenced on December 11 2009 when she skipped the country and found a hiding place in South Africa.

In June this year the authorities in US requested the Interpol unit to arrest and extradite King.

“The fugitive was arrested at her rental house in Brakpan, Gauteng, on Wednesday and she subsequently appeared before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court where she was remanded in custody until August 18,” said Netshiunda.
