Cape Town - Video footage of British businessman Shrien Dewani and his murdered wife Anni Hindocha, captured just hours after Dewani allegedly ordered a hitman to kill her, shows the couple kissing, cuddling and holding hands as they make their way back from dinner at the V&A Waterfront.

In addition to the footage, a video clip captured the evening of Anni’s death shows the couple being affectionate with each other and posing for photographs in the bar area of the Cape Grace Hotel.

The video footage was viewed on Wednesday in the Western Cape High Court, where Dewani is on trial for allegedly orchestrating Anni's murder.

It was screened after the defence asked the court to allow it to re-call investigating officer Paul Hendrikse so that he could comment on it.

As Dewani watched the video, tears streamed down his face and he took deep breaths as he tried to compose himself.

His parents, Prakash and Shila, were aso emotional as they watched.

On Tuesday, Hendrikse read out emails Anni had sent Dewani in which she told him he hurt her and asked if he wanted her to leave him.

The emails showed that the couple were unhappy days into their marriage.

However, on Wednesday morning, defence advocate Francois van Zyl, SC, showed Hendrikse a playful BlackBerry Messenger exchange between the couple around the time that the emails were sent.

In the messages they sent each other, there were playful sexual innuendos - not at all the kind of messages expected of a couple in a troubled marriage.

Hendrikse agreed that it was an affectionate exchange.

Responding to a question from Deputy Judge President Jeanette Traverso, he said he was aware of the messages between the couple.

The case was postponed to Friday to give the State time to arrange for another witness - an expert on gunshot residue - to come to Cape Town from Pretoria to testify.
