Cape Town - Nineteen people were arrested for various offences in Du Noon during Operation Fiela raids on Thursday morning, Cape Town police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said the 19 were apprehended when the operation was conducted in Milnerton where 173 houses and 354 people were searched.

“These searches resulted in a total of 19 arrests being effected, comprising one for being in possession of an illegal firearm, two for the possession of drugs, one for a charge relating to the Liquor Act, seven for being undocumented persons and eight on warrants of arrest,” he said.

“The eight were sought for attempted robbery, theft, assault, domestic violence and intimidation.”

An illegal firearm, a 9mm pistol and dagga were seized during the arrests.

“Once charged, the suspects are due to make a court appearance in Cape Town,” Traut said.

Operation Fiela was launched in April after a spate of xenophobic attacks and saw thousands of people arrested, including hundreds of illegal immigrants.
