Woman, 80, raped in TaungComment on this story
An 80-year-old woman has been raped in Mokasa village in Taung, North West police said on Monday.
“It is alleged that the suspect entered the victim's two-roomed house through a kitchen window and assaulted her before raping her,” said Captain Pelonomi Makau.
“(The) victim later smelled smoke and she realised that her kitchen was on fire. She immediately screamed for help and neighbours came and tried to extinguish the fire.”
The rest of the house subsequently caught fire, causing damage of around R20 000.
The rape happened around 3am on Sunday. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment later that morning.
Police opened a case of rape, attempted murder and arson. No arrests had been made. - Sapa
