A woman's body was found in a pool of blood about 25km underground in a mine shaft at the Khomanani Mine in Rustenburg, North West police said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old female mine worker's body was found on Monday by a colleague who reported the incident to mine management, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

A stone with blood stains on it and a lunch box were found next to the body.

Police will do a DNA analysis to determine whether the woman was raped, said Ngubane.

A murder docket was opened. - Sapa

@stifftail miau meau whilst it would appear that your heart is in the right place I have to set the record straight by pointing out the fact that just because we are female does not make us the 'weaker sex'. We are as capable if not more so than men. If you look at the many facets of a diamond, those are the many facets of a woman. We wear so many different hats in society and in our daily lives that it would leave the male species in a tail spin should they attempt the same. I can assure you that men might have physical strength but they do not have our tenacity and that's why men especially South African men feel they can beat, rape and murder South African women because they cannot deal with the spirit of tenacity, determination and courage they find in our women. And no, I am not a man hater, in fact I am very happily married for many beautiful years to a wonderful REAL MAN, who knows that he does not need to beat me to a pulp in order to get the best of me. Real men know what respect, dignity and love is!

Women empowerment , in some environments it turns into women endangerment , society should stop ignoring the true facts of life and take responsibilities to safe guard the lives of our weaker sex from the ever present danger of the prowling beasts .
