Johannesburg - A 43-year-old woman was shot and killed in what appeared to be a hijacking in Oakdene, Johannesburg.

The police and Netcare 911 responded to a call that a woman had been shot on High Street. The woman was found dead on the scene and could not be helped by paramedics.

“The deceased was getting into her car. People who work at the business heard a gunshot, then saw a black male who was wearing a tracksuit top and a hood standing at the deceased’s car,” said police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik.

“The suspect shot another shot killing the lady standing at the car once on the head and once on the chest. The suspect fled with the car. At this point a murder and hijacking case has been opened,” she said.

Van Emmerik added that the woman had just come from visiting her husband at a glass company when her Kia 4x4 SUV was stolen, before she was killed.
